Embroidered Lavender

Trying to get back into stitching, so I added some simple embroidered lavender to my flower sampler.

Colonial Knot Phlox Flower

This Phlox Bouquet is found on pg. 71 in the book "Encyclopedia of Embroidered Flowers" by Barbara Baatz.

I chose this flower from the book specifically because it is stitched with Colonial Knots - a stitch I have never done before.

I didn't have the exact floss colors listed in the book so I used the closest colors I had on hand.

Stems: Stem Stitch (2 strands of floss)

Leaves: Buttonhole Stitch (3 strands of floss)

You will notice in the above photo I added dots to mark where my flowers/knots would be stitched as a guide.

Flowers: Colonial Knots (6 strands of floss)

I watched this  Colonial Knot Video Tutorial to learn the stitch.

Flower Centers: Black French Knots (3 strands) instead of beads as suggested in the book.

The Colonial Knot and the French Knot look very similar. I prefer the French Knot, only because I am more comfortable stitching them, but I am glad I finally gave the Colonial Knot a try!

Embroidered Lupine Blossom

This Lupine blossom is from the book "Encyclopedia of Embroidered Flowers" by Barbara Baatz.

(Found on page 60 in case anyone out there happens to have the book also)

I didn't have all the exact floss colors listed, so I picked the closest colors I already had.

First stems stitched with stem stitch. The leaves are detached chain stitch filled with one straight stitch.

The flowers petals are satin stitch

Then add yellow detached chain stitches with a darker yellow straight stitch inside - topped off with a couple french knot buds.

White Woven Picot Stitch Flower

One of my goals this year for embroidery is to learn more stump work and 3-dimensional stitches. 

The woven picot is my first 3-dimensional stitch to learn.

I recently did a tutorial post on Feeling Stitchy about the woven picot stitch.

Here is another woven picot stitch flower with white Perle cotton floss on black fabric.

Dont be surprised if you see many more of these on here - I just finished a blue flower that I will share photos of soon.

Embroidered Queen Anne's Lace Flower Blossom

This Queen Anne's Lace is from the book "Encyclopedia of Embroidered Flowers" by Barbara Baatz.

First, work the stems with - you guessed it -  stem stitch!

Added detached daisy chain stitches for the leaves.

Added french knots in white and very light blue for the flowers.

Marigold Blossom

This marigold blossom is from the book "Encyclopedia of Embroidered Flowers" by Barbara Baatz.

(Found on Page 62 in case anyone out there happens to have the book also)

First stitch a small ring of light yellow detached chain stitches.

Fill the center with light green french knots and the center of each detached chain with a darker yellow straight stitch.

Then a row of orange detached chain stitches. The right side turned out a little funky but thats ok!

Then another row of darker orange detached chain stitches - filling all with a straight stitch inside.

Add some leaves - more detached chain stitches filled with a straight stitch each.

All done!

Here is the marigold blossom with the rest of my flower sampler I started. I eventually want to fill up the entire space with flowers. You can see my previous flower posts on my Flower Page.

Satin Stitch Flower

Next for my flower sampler is a satin stitch flower.

I roughly drew some flowers and leaves with a disappearing ink pen.

I filled in each petal with satin stitch and the center of the flowers are french knots.

I like this tutorial for learning the satin stitch.
