Take A Stitch Tuesday #69 - Magic Chain Stitch

Yesterday I posted on Feeling Stitchy about the Take A Stitch Tuesday 10 year anniversary and worked the Interlaced Cable Chain Stitch.

To celebrate here, I am completing TAST stitch #69 - the Magic Chain Stitch!

When I chose the red and white thread for this, I was originally going for a "Valentine" color theme, but after I was done all I see is "Christmas" candy cane colors!!

Oh well, I will have to remember this stitch for next Christmas!

Check out Sharon's tutorial for the Magic Chain Stitch also.

More information on the TAST challenge, guidelines, and stitch list can be found here.

Its been a looooong time since I my last TAST stitch.

My TAST sampler recap is the most viewed post on the blog.

I followed this video tutorial to learn the stitch.

I stitched it with pearl cotton thread and think this would be a great stitch for borders.

Take a Stitch Tuesday #55 - Up & Down Buttonhole Stitch

Take a Stitch Tuesday TAST buttonhole stitch

This week 's Take a Stitch Tuesday is the Up and Down Buttonhole Stitch.

Take a Stitch Tuesday TAST buttonhole stitch

I really like the up & down buttonhole much more than your basic buttonhole or blanket stitch.

It's very easy and quick.

I drew a line to guide my stitching and followed the instructions from this video tutorial from Needle n' Thread.

I really appreciate the hand embroidery video tutorials Mary has on her website. They are so helpful and it is always the first place I look to for stitch tutorials!

Here it is right next to the Palestrina stitch on my TAST sampler.

Take a Stitch Tuesday #27 - Bonnet Stitch

This week for Take a Stitch Tuesday we have the Bonnet Stitch.

Take a Stitch Tuesday TAST Bonnet Stitch

Oh, Bonnet Stitch. Please don't take it too personally, but you are not my favorite stitch.

I had a hard time with this stitch. I followed these instructions and I think mine is pretty close to what it should look like?!?

Take a Stitch Tuesday TAST Bonnet Stitch

I felt like this was an awkward stitch. I don't prefer to stitch from right to left.

Also, I just don't see myself choosing this stitch over the many, many others that are more fun to stitch...sorry if this is anyone's favorite...

Do you like the Bonnet stitch? Leave me a comment if you ever used it in your embroidery or leave a link to any photos of your Bonnet stitch! I would love to see them!! :)

See you next week!

Take a Stitch Tuesday - Palestrina Stitch

Take a Stitch Tuesday Palestrina Stitch

This week is Take a Stitch Tuesday #24 - the Palestrina Stitch.

Take a Stitch Tuesday Palestrina Stitch

I really enjoyed this stitch. To learn, I followed this video tutorial.

Draw a straight line to help guide your stitching.

Take a Stitch Tuesday Palestrina Stitch

You will see the beginning the stitch was smaller and then I made the arms longer and longer to give it a different effect.

Take a Stitch Tuesday Palestrina Stitch

I personally thought it was easier to stitch when the arms are longer.

Here it is finished! Stitched with #5 pearl cotton.

Take a Stitch Tuesday #23 - Cable Chain Stitch

Take a Stitch Tuesday is back and I am now on Stitch # 23 - Cable Chain Stitch.

Before I started, I watched this video to learn the stitch.

My first try was with pearl cotton - which I need to use more often. I really like how it looks.

The next cable chain I stitched with regular 6 strand DMC floss.

I think my cable chains are pretty close in size.

Up close!

I am starting my new TAST sampler with this stitch. The fabric in these photos is weavers cloth. Have you ever stitched on weavers cloth? Please tell me what fabric you stitch with!

See you next week with another TAST!

Take a Stitch Tuesday Sampler and ReCap - Stitches # 1 - 22

Time for a quick recap post of my Take a Stitch Tuesday challenge!

So far I am up to stitch #22 and decided to start a new sampler with the next stitch.

Here is my sampler.

TAST

I think next sampler I might try something different - like maybe more free form lines instead of all parallel lines.

TAST sampler

As always - some up close photos. The yellow chevron stitch may be my favorite.

TAST sampler

While putting this post together, it was interesting to see how many stitches I had actually forgotten about - or that I completely missed #17 and #18!!

I suppose I may need to do those two next...

I also cannot believe stitch #1 was way back in 2013!! Where has the time gone?!?

TAST sampler

Thanks for recapping with me! Let's hope it doesn't take me another two years to do the next 20 stitches!

Take a Stitch Tuesday #22 - Buttonhole Wheel

This week's stitch for Take a Stitch Tuesday is the Buttonhole Wheel.

First, I (very poorly) drew a circle on my fabric. I probably should have taken the time to draw a better circle.

I followed this online tutorial .

My first attempt at the buttonhole wheel did not turn out so well. Yikes!

So I removed my stitches and tried it again.

I think my second attempt turned out much better.

Although at a different angle you can see my stitches are sticking up from the fabric. I think I will need more practice!

So I did a half circle and I think it turned out much better, the stitches seem to lay more flat against the fabric.

See you next week for more TAST!

Take a Stitch Tuesday #21 - Knotted Cretan

This week for Take a Stitch Tuesday we have the Knotted Cretan.

I drew 4 lines with disappearing ink to help guide my stitches. (They began to disappear before I was even finished!)

It helps to know the basic cretan stitch -  TAST #4 - before attempting this knotted cretan.

Up close.

The finished row on my TAST sampler. (Not the best photo - sorry!)

See you next week for another Take a Stitch Tuesday.
