Blinded by Science Embroidery Swap

I am so excited to receive my swap piece for the Phat Quarter's Blinded by Science embroidery swap from Wallflower Arts.

I absolutely love it! She did such a great job. Her idea of a pinup inspired anatomical drawing is just awesome.

This swap was so fun. I will definitely participate in future swaps.

Blinded by Science Embroidery Swap

I've finished my embroidery for the Phat Quarter group swap on Flickr.  The theme is “Blinded by Science”. This is the first swap I have participated in and it was really fun. My swap partner, lizzibabe emailed me today and said she received it in the mail!

To get ideas for the theme, I first started to search Google Images for science stuff, but was having a hard time deciding on what to stitch. Then I went to the library to look at the science section. I found this book on instruments of science, started paging through it, and landed on an illustration of Geissler tubes. I loved the look of them and thought they would be fun to stitch!

Here is the illustration I took a photo of from the book to use for my pattern.

For more information on Geissler tubes, check out this link!

Here are some work in progress photos I took while stitching the tubes.

To finish the embroidery, I decided to stretch it on a canvas. This is the first time I have ever done that and I really like the finished look.
