Floss Love Vol. 7: Tapestry Wool and Pearl Cotton

I haven't done a Floss Love post in quite awhile - so here is my latest haul from the needlework shop.

Above: black and yellow DMC Tapestry Wool for a project that will be on the Feeling Stitchy blog soon!! (Also, my first time stitching with wool!)

Below: more DMC wool because I love these colors and may use them in another embroidery project.

I also picked up one skein of the blue Appleton wool to try stitching sometime and a few colors of Anchor pearl cotton.

Who out there stitches with wool?? What brands do you like best?

P.S. - Anyone who lives in the Seattle area and is looking for a great retail needlework shop - I highly recommend Threadneedle Street in Issaquah. Huge selection of floss!!

P.P.S - Check out the DMC Coloris Floss Review on Feeling Stitchy and stitch up the free pattern!!

Floss Love Vol. 6: Messy Floss Organization

I always like seeing how other stitchers store and organize their floss.

I have a plastic three-drawer organizer that I use to keep my DMC floss in.

The drawers originally started out very neat and tidy, but I gave that up years ago.

Here are photos of each drawer.

We have the greens and blues.

Reds/Purples/Yellows/Oranges/Pinks

Black/Browns/Greys/Whites

How do you store your floss??

Floss Love Vol. 5: Coton Floche A Broder (DMC Floche)

It has been a long time since I did a Floss Love Post!

I finally visited a needlepoint shop nearby to check out their floss selection and they actually carry the DMC Floche!

I have never used Floche before and have only read about it. I knew it was not cheap (I splurged and picked up myself 5 colors!)

I am excited to stitch with it. Have you ever stitched with Floche before? If so, any tips to share? Do you like it or prefer regular old DMC floss? :)

Merchant & Mills Scissors and Floss Love

I love embroidery scissors. I buy myself a new pair of scissors every so often as a treat for myself.

I've shared about my scissors in a previous post here.

So when I found these cute little Baby Bow Scissors, I just had to get them.

Maybe I live under a rock, but have you ever heard of Merchant & Mills before? I had not. So I took a look at their website. I love all they have to offer!

Look at the cute little "M" stamped on the scissors.

Just to give you an idea of how small these are - here is a photo next to "normal" sized embroidery scissors.

Now that I have discovered Merchant & Mills, I keep looking at their shop and want to buy everything!

I mean, how awesome is their pin selection!?!

In other new, it's been a long time since I did a "Floss Love" post so thought these photos would be great for one!

I am taking the Furry Nice Embroidery class that Nicole from Follow the White Bunny is teaching and our assignment was to gather our floss for the project.

Here are my floss colors I have chosen. I will definitely post more about the embroidery projects once we start stitching. I am really excited about this class!

Please let me know if you are familiar with Merchant & Mills! Have you bought anything from their shop?

Floss Love Vol. 4: Bobbins!

Lots -o- bobbins.

My MIL found these containers of bobbins at, I think, a garage sale and gave them to me a long time ago.

Whoever these belonged to took the time organize them so nicely - even wrote the color numbers on each bobbin.

My Tools

One of my favorite blogs, &Stitches is offering a competition for their readers - show our embroidery tool kits!

&Stitches tool kit competition

**Update - the competition is closed, but you can still see all who shared their favorite tools!**

My favorite embroidery hoops are the Q Snap frames. I think they are easier to work with. If I do use a normal round embroidery hoop I always use a plastic one, even though I have a ton of wooden hoops, I choose plastic every time. (Update February 2016: It's funny how things change. Since I posted this back in 2013, I switched to using wooden hoops and now never use the plastic hoops!!)

DMC embroidery scissors. I use this pair the most.

For transferring patterns, I use the Sulky Iron-on transfer pen with tracing paper. For smaller projects I will use Quilter’s Choice transfer paper. I like how it doesn’t smear and is easy to transfer onto the fabric.

I have been buying Dritz embroidery needles and I use that little purple square pincushion to hold my needles.

The pincushion is nothing fancy – I made it out of some felt and put some Velcro on the bottom so it will stay  in place on the couch arm.

Floss Love Vol. 3: Metallic threads

Metallic and Shiny.

WIP Wednesday: Purple Lady

Hello! I'm starting a new weekly feature called WIP Wednesday!

Every Wednesday (hopefully) I'm going to post what embroidery work I have in progress.

This week, I'm working on the next pattern my husband drew.

I'm using 4 strands of floss by mixing 2 strands of dark purple with 2 strands of very light purple.

Warning.... big booty coming up!! :)

This Floss Love post is about Weeks Dye Works cotton floss.

This hand over dyed cotton floss comes in gorgeous colors. I picked these up at a needlework shop back in Minnesota.

Up close you can see the color variations. I wish I bought more of this floss. It is 6 strands and is great to stitch with.

Floss Love Vol.1: DMC Black #310

I use DMC floss for almost everything I embroider. It’s a great floss, a great price, and can easily be found at most craft stores. I stock up on Black # 310 !!

A few years back I discovered Sullivan embroidery floss at Hancock Fabrics. I honestly had no idea it even existed! I really like it though and love how it lists the similar DMC floss number on its labels.

What’s your favorite floss?
